Use AI Without Learning Every Technology

Small-business owners should be able to benefit from AI without spending unnecessary time learning every technology or system. NTA understands the tools, connects them to the business, and makes AI useful in practical work.

Rick Hesse · Your Digital Growth Guide™

What Good Are You If You Can't Remember Yesterday?

When I first started seriously working with AI, I remember having a very simple reaction. What good are you if you can't even remember what we talked about yesterday? I was trying to build things. I wasn't looking for a machine that could give me an impressive answer and then forget everything the next day. I wanted something I could work with.

I wanted to have a conversation today, continue it tomorrow, build something from it next week, and keep creating from what we had already learned. At first, that wasn't really possible the way I wanted it to be. Then I watched AI evolve.

It Went From Answering Questions to Doing Work

The changes came quickly. Conversation got better. Memory got better. Projects became easier to organize. Development tools improved. AI could help work with code. It could help create documents. It could help research. It could help organize information. It could connect conversations to actual projects and actual work. Instead of every conversation disappearing into yesterday, I could begin creating something larger.

That's when AI became much more interesting to me. It stopped being just a tool I asked questions. It started becoming something I could build with.

Conversation Became the Interface

A couple of months into working this way, I started noticing something else. I had developed my own way of communicating with AI. I talked through ideas. I thought out loud. I corrected things when they didn't sound like me. I built one thought on top of another. Then I started seeing major AI companies advertising and talking more and more about simply conversing with AI.

I don't take that to mean somebody copied what I was doing. It tells me something more useful. I had independently started working in a way that the broader market was beginning to validate. That's encouraging. Because I think conversation is the key for a lot of small-business owners.

Business Owners Don't Need Another Technical Job

Most small-business owners I know already have enough to do. They don't need to become prompt engineers. They don't need to learn APIs. They don't need to become automation experts. They don't need to spend their evenings figuring out which model connects to which database through which integration. That's not why they started their businesses. A plumber needs to know plumbing.

A contractor needs to understand construction. A gym owner needs to understand members and fitness. A dentist needs to understand patients. A restaurant owner needs to understand food, service, people, and operations. They don't need another technical career. That's the opportunity I see for New Tech Advertising.

The Difference Between a Tool and a System

Most large technology companies have to build products for enormous numbers of people. Their job is to create powerful capabilities. That's useful. I'm grateful those tools exist because NTA is built with them. But my job is different. I don't have to build the next giant AI model. I have to understand what these tools can do and make them useful inside a real small business.

That's the difference between: Here's an AI tool. Learn how to use it. and: Tell me how your business works. We'll build the AI around it. That is a completely different service. And it is the side of AI where I believe NTA belongs.

Work With AI Without Changing How You Work

One of the ideas that has become central to New Tech Advertising is: Work with AI without changing how you work. I mean that literally. A business owner should be able to say:

"That customer was really happy today. Make sure we follow up."

Or:

"I think leads were down last week. Find out what happened."

Or:

"I want to start promoting this new service."

Or:

"Here's a video I just made. Use it."

Or:

"We need to make sure this gets finished before Friday."

That's how people already communicate. The technology should do more of the organizing behind the conversation. The owner shouldn't have to become the software operator.

One Company. Multiple AI Roles.

This is also how I now see the NTA system. There isn't one magic AI that does everything. There are different jobs. The Free AI Guy is the educational side. He helps people learn about AI and understand what is possible. The Receptionist handles the business front door when someone is ready to talk about actually working with NTA.

The Prospecting Agent goes out and helps find businesses where there may be a genuine fit. The Growth and Content system helps create and distribute useful marketing. The Reputation system helps businesses build and manage customer reviews and trust. The Operations side organizes work and connects information. The Business Intelligence side watches what is happening and helps turn numbers into something an owner can understand.

Those are different jobs. But the real system isn't the individual agents. The real system is what they know together.

The Source of Truth

If every AI agent knows something different, you don't have a company. You have a collection of bots. The goal is to create a shared source of truth for the business. What does this company do? Who are its customers? How does it communicate? What has already been decided? What content has already been created? What promises have been made?

What projects are underway? What happened with this customer last time? What worked? What didn't? That knowledge becomes the foundation underneath everything else. Then the receptionist, marketing system, prospecting system, operations system, and business advisor are no longer isolated tools. They are different parts of the same company. That's what I have been building inside NTA. For the practical foundation behind this, see AI Needs Context Before It Can Be Helpful.

I Don't Need to Know What AI Looks Like Five Years From Now

AI is changing too quickly for anyone to know exactly what the toolset will look like several years from now. I don't need to know. My job is simpler. Something changed. Is it useful? Is it better than what we're using? Can it help NTA? Can it help a client? If the answer is yes, use it. That's another advantage of being small.

I can change quickly. The technology underneath NTA will continue changing. The purpose doesn't have to.

The Do-It-For-You Side of AI

There will be plenty of places where people can learn how to build agents themselves. There will be courses. Software. Videos. Templates. Tutorials. AI companies will continue giving people more powerful tools. That's good. But there is another customer. The business owner who says: "I don't want to spend the next year learning how to build all of this. I want it to work."

That's the customer I understand. That's where New Tech Advertising fits. I can learn the tools. I can test them. I can connect them. I can figure out what matters and what doesn't. The business owner can continue running the business they already understand. They can talk. They can type. They can upload. They can ask questions. They can make decisions.

AI can increasingly organize and execute the work around them. They should be able to benefit without spending unnecessary time learning every technology or system. They need a company that knows how to make AI useful. That's what I'm building at New Tech Advertising. And that's what I'm already using to run New Tech Advertising itself. You can also read You Can Do What I Do—But You Don't Have To for the companion lesson on why business owners should not have to learn every tool themselves.

Key Takeaway

Benefit from AI without spending unnecessary time learning every technology first. The owner keeps running the business; NTA’s role is to implement and support useful AI capabilities inside it.
